What a great year we had! 2006-07 Year in review; 2005-06

CURRICULUM
Like every healthy school, we strive to create an environment that is supportive, stimulating, creative, caring, and challenging. The faculty at St. Paul’s further works to integrate God’s love and His plan for us into virtually all subject areas. We know that when teachers are excited about their subject matter and their students, when teachers feel and share Christ’s love and construct integrated projects, students cannot help but be caught up in the same enthusiastic process.

A comprehensive range of subjects at each grade level as required for accreditation by the state of Indiana and the more–demanding standards of the Lutheran Schools Association is prepared and administered. Math, English/Language, Spelling/Handwriting, Science, Social Studies, Religion, Literature, Computers, Art, Music, and Physical Education are all part of the full-range of growth for students. Homework is assigned and students are given some time to finish this work in class or study hall. The work not completed is required to be completed at home and supported by parents with an encouraging and well–prepared environment.

ADVANCED STUDY & ELECTIVES
In addition to the required coursework, teachers who observe students who require further academic challenges may provide them with advanced work at any grade level. Middle school advanced classes in Pre–Algebra and Algebra are available to those students who demonstrate advanced capabilities. In addition, extra-curricular electives in Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Handbells, World Drumming, Art, competitive sports, Student Council, and scouting, etc. are available.

SUPPORT SERVICES
A full-time learning disabilities teacher is on staff to assist students eligible to receive support services. Eligible students will have an IEP or a 504 plan on file. The school reserves the determination of ability of the school to provide services, considering the severity of individual needs and program capacity. Tutoring teachers and peer tutoring are available to those students who need temporary assistance. A speech therapist from the West Lake Co–Op is available on–site for speech and language assistance.

ACHIEVEMENT TESTS
Achievement tests are used to supplement regular tests. The ISTEP is administered to students in compliance with the Indiana Department of Education requirements. Supplemental achievement testing may be given as needed.

GRADUATES
Upon graduation, students move on to local public high schools such as Munster, Highland, Lake Central, and Griffith and private high schools like Illiana, Bishop Noll, Marian, and Luther East. Teachers at these secondary schools consistently identify St Paul’s graduates as hard–working, respectful, and well–prepared.
