2nd GRADE –Family History Project

Dear Parents,

Each student in the second grade class will be making a Family History book.  Each student is to interview a relative of their grandparents’ generation (grandfather, grandmother, great aunt or great uncle), using questions from the question interview sheet provided and /or questions of his own.  Then, with the help of a parent, each student should take the information and put it in story form. It should NOT be in a question/answer format. You may help your child by typing the story. After the story is typed we will be dividing the children’s stories into paragraphs and pasting them into a blank book your child will illustrate.

The completed book will total 19 typed and illustrated pages.  Please make sure your child has enough information, approximately 4 sentences per paragraph, to fill their book.  Besides the 19 typed and illustrated pages there will be a title page, a dedication page, about the author page, and a Family Tree page (see below).

If your child is writing about several grandparents, please assist your child in keeping the information for each grandparent separate.  Children using more than one grandparent for their story will have their books divided into chapters, but still totaling 19 pages.

This assignment is due in April.  We will share our books with our parents, grandparents, etc. at our Young Authors’ Family History Celebration the last week of school.  The information for this will be announced at a later date.
