NEWS from 2nd Grade:

Second graders are excited about many new things. They are beginning to learn to write cursive and learning the 13 songs for this year's operetta, "Son-Seekers' Nation Vacation," which will be presented on May 2 at 7:00 p.m. More information about that will be coming soon. Second graders have been reading biographies about Theodore Roosevelt, Wilma Rudolph, Ellen Ochoa, and Susan B. Anthony. In science they are making a musical instruments to demonstrate sound. But of course, the biggest excitement this week was going roller skating and having their VIP visit our classroom. - Mrs. Bruns

Second Graders are getting ready for their ancestry unit by designing a quilt square for our class Ancestry Quilt and looking for artifacts for our Ancestry Museum. They are reading "Journey to Ellis Island," a true story about a family from Russia coming to America. In science they are learning about the properties of matter and the three states of matter. Can you name three solids that are in your desk? Ask a 2nd grader. Mrs. Bruns

Second Grade is busy reading silly stories in language arts and beginning to draft their own stories. We are learning about attribute shapes and the "plus 9" facts in math. The class brought in many types of plants to help us learn about the parts of a plant in science. They also did an experiment in which all the leaves of the plant were covered with foil to see how that would affect the plant’s growth. This week we are celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday with a baking project and making "pot hats" and playing Apple Bingo. Mrs. Bruns

Second grade has got off to a great start with learning about our responsibility as God's child living in the world He created. Second graders have brought in various plants for science to examine the plant parts and discover the function of each plant part. In Social Studies they are learning about urban, suburban, and rural communities. To help share different places that they have visited each student is making a travel brochure. If you stop by their classroom, you will see the class display with each student wearing a T-shirt which depicts something that interests each of them.
